Four Tips for Dealing with Mounting Essay Stress at College

After a while, college papers can quickly pile up and if you’re juggling study with work, family commitments and anything else, it can very easily become a source of stress. But your essay grades will usually make up a huge percentage of your final result, so they are certainly worth prioritizing. We’ve got some top tips to help you get on top of essay stress and get the results that you want.

Tip #1. Get Some Help:

First of all, there’s nothing wrong with reaching out and asking for help if you feel that you need it. Your tutors, professors and even other students are all there for you to network with and get advice from that can help you perform better with your degree. Your class tutor will certainly not begrudge giving you advice and guidance with an essay if you ask them; most tutors will have office ‘drop in’ times which are specifically for the purpose of speaking to students who would like some extra support. Additionally, you can find several online resources that can help you write better essays, from reference generators to sites such as Bid4papers where you can connect with retired tutors, other students and professionals who can help.

Tip #2. Get a Routine:

There’s nothing worse than letting essays creep up on you, only to find that you have no choice but to pull an all-nighter to make sure that it’s completed and submitted on time. Although you may be able to get your essay in on time in this situation, it’s not always the best choice for your grades, since your stress and lack of sleep will mean that you’re not performing at your best. Instead, try and get into a healthy routine every day while you are at college. Even if you have no pertinent assignments due, it’s worth sticking to a routine that will help you get ahead of your work and minimize last-minute worries. For example, you could work out in the morning, go to classes, and set aside some time in the afternoon for studying or working on upcoming assignments.

Tip #3. Get Ahead:

Another way to make sure that you’re not left panicking over your essay at the last minute is to try and get ahead of the work whenever possible. In most cases, your assignments will be set a few weeks before the deadline at least, so don’t waste any time from as soon as you know what needs to be done. Use the routine that we mentioned in the last point to set aside a certain amount of time each day to work on your essay; doing a little bit every day will help you break the work down into more manageable chunks.

Tip #4. Get a Study Group:

Spending time with your classmates isn’t just a great way to make new friends for life; you’ll also be able to discuss your lessons with them and draw on their own knowledge and expertise. People at college tend to come from all different backgrounds, so you are very likely going to find somebody who already has a background in the degree subject that you are studying, who will be able to provide you with some great advice. Or, other students may have picked up on things that you have missed during lectures, or simply have a better understanding of it than yourself. That’s the great thing about college – everybody’s varying abilities make it easy for students to learn from each other. Meet up with your study group at home or in the library a couple of times a week; not only is this a great way to learn but you’ll also be able to get much-needed social support.

At college, essay writing is a skill that you need to have to get the degree that you want. Do you have any further tips to share? We’d love to hear from you in the comments.
